Inside the life of Snoop Dogg – Eminem feud, tragic loss, £110m fortune and sex tape scandal
Snoop Dogg is one of the most decorated names in rap history.
The 50-year-old artist – whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. – was born in Long Beach, California on October 20, 1971.
He rose to prominence in the 90s under the stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg, collaborating with artists such as Dr Dre and released his first solo album Doggystyle in November 1993 to critical and commercial acclaim.
Over the past few years, Snoop has both cemented his success and encountered some inevitable bumps along the way.
From being embroiled in a sex tape scandal with social media star Celina Powell to patching up his long-running feud with Eminem, the rapper has also recently taken on some exciting new business ventures to boost his staggering net worth.
Snoop and Eminem got embroiled in a feud following Snoop’s comments in a July 2020 interview that he wouldn’t consider Slim Shady among the top 10 rappers of all time were it not for Dr. Dre’s involvement in his career. .
Speaking on US radio show The Breakfast Club, Snoop said: “White rappers had no respect in rap… [Dre] probably put Eminem in the position where he would be labeled one of the top 10 rappers of all time.
“I don’t think so, but the game feels like it’s [one of the] top 10 lyricists and all that goes with it. It’s just because he’s with Dr. Dre. And Dr. Dre helped him find the best Eminem he could find.”
Eminem did not appreciate the criticism.
He referenced Snoop’s dig in his song “Zeus,” which featured the lyrics, “I’m used to people hitting me/But it ain’t on my side… Last thing I need is for Snoop to harass me.”
However, the pair have since buried the hatchet.
During an appearance on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast last October, Snoop confirmed that he had apologized to the “Spacebound” rapper.
The duo also teamed up for a song on rap supergroup Mount Westmore’s debut album this year.
Snoop is one of the richest rappers in the world.
The ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ hitmaker has a net worth of $150m (£110m) as of this year (via rich gorilla) and it is not surprising.
Since his debut in the 90s, Snoop has sold over 35 million albums worldwide. He has also signed a number of license and endorsement agreements.
Previously, Snoop collaborated with sock brand Happy Socks and launched his own collection of socks.
Called The Art of Inspiration, the collection launched in the UK and was sold online and at retailers such as Selfridges and John Lewis.
Snoop also launched his own brand of marijuana called Leafs By Snoop in 2015, though things weren’t always so smooth sailing for the star.
In December 2019, Snoop found himself embroiled in a sextape scandal.
The rapper has been accused of cheating on his wife Shante Monique Broadus, 50, with 24-year-old social media star Celina Powell, who took to YouTube to claim she was having an affair with Snoop.
In May of the following year, Celina leaked the tapes of their steamy encounter to her OnlyFans account, telling fans on Instagram, “I released exclusive NEVER seen before tapes of 69 and Snoop.
“You thought I was playing. I keep all the videos.
Snoop and Shante’s marriage survived the scandal. The couple, who married in 1997, are still going strong.
Lookalike children and tragic loss
Snoop has three children from his marriage to Shante, whom he first met in high school.
He filed for divorce in 2004, but the couple eventually remarried in 2008 and reunited Corde, Cordell and Cori.
Corde made Snoop a grandfather for the first time, welcomed a son with girlfriend Jessica Kyzer in 2015. The couple sadly lost their second son Kai in 2019, ten days after he was born.
Snoop also has a son from a previous relationship with Laurie Holmond named Julian.
