Man faces life in prison for child sex charges
A Nevada City man accused of sexually abusing a girl for several years remained jailed Friday on $500,000 bail, authorities said.
Robert Lloyd Goodman, 39, faces 10 counts of aggravated child sexual assault; two counts of oral copulation with a child 10 years of age or younger; two counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 years of age or younger; and one count each of obscene act upon a child and forcible obscene act upon a child, according to Nevada County Superior Court records.
Officers learned of the charges after the victim told someone about them, leading authorities to get involved, District Attorney Jesse Wilson said.
Prosecutors filed the charge against Goodman on Dec. 8. He was transferred Thursday from out of the area to the Nevada County Jail and appeared in court Friday, records show.
Appearing via Zoom, Goodman told Judge B. Scott Thomsen that he currently cannot afford to hire his own attorney, but people are looking into him.
“It depends how far it goes,” Goodman said. “I hope this will be resolved quickly.”
“We’ll talk about it,” said assistant public defender Hayley Dewey, who has been assigned to her case. “That seems unlikely at first glance.”
The judge told Goodman that if convicted, he faces 15 years to life in prison.
Goodman is accused of abusing a girl from 2010 to 2018, once occurring the day after third grade ended. The acts occurred at different locations in Nevada County, including Goodman’s apartment; a “drug house” in Nevada City; and a “clean and sober” residence, according to court records.
