Sex offender charged with trying to lure a child
CRIME WATCH: Sex offender charged with trying to lure child
The King County Attorney’s Office filed a complaint against a 67-year-old man Ranjel Joaquina convicted sex offender arrested in Steve Cox Memorial Park two weeks ago. Charging documents allege Joaquin attempted to lead a 10-year-old girl into a wooded area with him and then exposed himself to her. The girl’s mother called 911 while following him through the White Center and taking pictures, but he took off when deputies arrived. A detective following up on the case circulated the photos and a colleague recognized Joaquin from another recent incident in which he engaged in indecent exposure. Further investigation revealed other similar arrests, as well as a long multi-state history of similar offenses. The police began looking for him and found him at Steve Cox Park, watching children. They took him for questioning and finally arrested him. He is now charged with luring, indecent exposure and failure to register as a sex offender. Joaquin remains in the King County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
