On the 22nd of every month, Robert Olds publishes a post on Facebook. Each will usually include a photo of her niece, Rikki Olds, or a memento in her honor.

It has become a tradition, part of his ongoing efforts to keep his niece’s memory alive. Rikki, 25, was one of 10 people killed about a year ago at the Table Mesa Drive King Soopers where she worked.

In the immediate term, a mass shooting weighs heavily on the spirit of a community. But this attention often fades.

“Too often, it’s the reality: everyone thinks about it in the moment. One month, two months, three months… their life goes on,” Robert Olds said. “When you’re a victim, you’re kind of stuck in that moment.”

In addition to Rikki, Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley, 51; Denny Stong, 20 years old; Neven Stanisic, 23 years old; Tralona Bartkowiak, 49 years old; Teri Leiker, 51 years old; Fontaine Suzanne, 59 years old; Kevin Mahoney, 61; Lynn Murray, 61; and Jody Waters, 65were killed in the shooting, which happened just before 3 p.m. on March 22, 2021.

(Photos courtesy of friends and family)

South Boulder King Soopers remained closed until February, when the store reopened with a new design in response to community and employee feedback. King Soopers is planning a memorial tree garden in remembrance of those lost in the shooting.

Rikki grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Centaurus High School in 2013. She started working at King Soopers in 2016, starting as a deli clerk before moving on to deli manager.

At the time of her death, Rikki was a front-end manager, usually responsible for supervising all employees in a particular section, such as cashiers and customer service representatives, and was training to become a store manager.

As he reflects on what he has lost, Robert struggles to remember that Rikki will no longer be around for the everyday moments of life.

“For me, personally, it lacks the randomness of going into the house,” he said. “Me teasing her hair color of the month or any new tattoo she got.”

And perhaps even more than his own stories, he was comforted by the countless stories he heard from friends and colleagues in the months following Rikki’s death: jokes about interactions with customers and times when she went out of her way to make people laugh.

“I think it just reflects his character,” Robert said. “Also, I think it was kind of her way of healing from the trauma she faced in her life.”

Rikki’s mother left when she was young and she and her brother ended up living with their grandparents, he noted.

A fight for justice

Losing the chance to celebrate birthdays and holidays with Rikki or hang out with her randomly has usually been the hardest part of the loss.

But the most unexpected difficulty? The paperwork and more bureaucratic steps that must be taken when losing a loved one, especially in such a violent and public way.

“No one logically thinks they’re going to have to mind their 25-year-old relative’s business,” Robert said. “It’s really difficult.”

In the aftermath of the shooting, the Olds family was one of the few to regularly agree to be interviewed and speak at press conferences when there are updates in court proceedings. The other nine families declined an interview for this story.

“If I can keep the memory of my niece, so that people don’t forget the story and don’t forget her…she was part of it,” he said.

“It’s my way of fighting for justice for her and for everyone else,” Robert later added.

Overall, Robert hopes what happened at this store will inspire company-wide training and safety changes.

When King Soopers reopened the store earlier this year, it declined to share any specific changes or upgrades made to the security of that particular store or any member of the chain, citing security concerns over the revelation of measures. security in place.

Still, while his various efforts for justice have helped him cope, Robert acknowledges that his feelings about losing Rikki continue to evolve.

Survival, anger, therapy

For the first few months after his death, Robert remained in survival mode.

Then he got angry. He said rage ultimately cost him relationships with people he cared about.

“It’s something that I don’t think gets talked about a lot – you as a person and as a victim of it, you change,” Robert said. “True, false or indifferent, there are relationships that are affected.”

This experience is common among people who experience trauma, according to the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.

“No matter what traumatic event or circumstance a person endures, whether it is the sudden death of a loved one, an air disaster, a hate crime, communal violence, child abuse childhood, sexual assault, war or refugee, it is natural for the experience to affect relationships with others,” the company noted in a report.

After much conviction and encouragement from his support system, Robert began therapy. He said it was a necessary step as he processed his grief.

But everyone deals with trauma differently and on their own timeline, according to Karen Schweihs, director of the Boulder Strong Resource Center, a resource center run by Mental Health Partners of Boulder and sponsored by King Soopers.

“We know that trauma happens at times that are unpredictable for people,” she said.

The Boulder Strong Resource Center opened in the days following the shooting and moved to a permanent location on Baseline Road in June. Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Lafayette, secured $275,000 in federal funding for the center, which continues to serve an average of 200 visitors each month.

The center, open to those affected in any way by the shooting, offers several services, including comfort dogs, counseling, massage and art therapy.

As Boulder marks one year since the shooting, the families of those lost, others inside the store, and the community at large continue to deal with the aftermath.

Ensuring people stay connected and have continued support in the aftermath of mass violence is critical, according to a report by the American Psychological Association.

For this reason, Schweihs expects the Boulder Strong Resource Center to remain open indefinitely.

“We know that after a tragedy the impact is long term,” she said. “These 10 people will never be forgotten and the community needs to heal. This takes lots of time. There is no quick fix.

The Kardashian family is arguably the most famous celebrity family that wields some serious power. Whether it’s their reality show, beauty brands, fashion business, or everyday gossip, the Kardashians never fail to command attention. From their luxury lifestyles to their fights, divorces, gender reassignment (ahem), and so on – Kardashian sure knows how to catch the eyeballs.

Who are the Kardashians?

If you haven’t kept up with the Kardashians or are confused about the Kardashian family tree, read on to find out who’s who, what they do, and get more information.

Robert Kardashian – The Late Father

Robert Kardashian was an American lawyer famous for defending the case of OJ Simpson in 1995. Robert won the case for his client, and the entire episode is considered one of the most controversial verdicts handed down by the American court.

Kris Jenner’s ex-husband, together they had four children – Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and Robert Jr. The couple called it quits in 1991. Robert died in 2003 after being diagnosed with breast cancer. esophagus.

Kris Jenner – The Mother

She’s billed as the OG behind their iconic show, Keeping up with the Kardashians, and a doting mother and manager of her six children. Kris has mixed ancestry – Dutch, Irish, English, German and Scottish. She runs her own production company and is the author of a few books.

After breaking up with her ex-husband, Kris married Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn). The couple had two of the hottest starlets around – Kendall and Kylie.

Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner – Husband #2

Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner, was a famous Olympic athlete. Before marrying Kris, he had two wives and four children. He shocked the world when he underwent gender reassignment surgery at the age of 65.

You may have seen Caitlyn make several appearances on the family show. In 2015, the couple broke up, after which Caitlyn launched her own reality show and memoir which garnered a lot of attention. The reason is that her memoirs portrayed Kris negatively. Caitlyn and Kris shared a sour relationship after their divorce. It was very recently that the couple at the time let the past pass.

Kourtney Kardashian – The Eldest Daughter

She’s Kardashian’s older sister and honestly the most serious and low-key of them all. Kourtney is a devoted mother to her three children, a businesswoman and a style icon among her fans. The gorgeous lady quit reality TV in 2020 to spend more time with her children (so dedicated, we told you).

She is often seen updating beautiful photos on Instagram, where she has 150 million followers. To give you a little tea on her personal life, she was in a long-term relationship with Scott Disick. The couple ended their 9-year relationship in 2015. The split with her boyfriend still made her enjoy a short romance with Younes Bendjima, but sadly, their relationship didn’t work out either. Currently, she is in love with Travis Barker, a famous rockstar.

Kim Kardashian West – The Most Famous Girl

She is the most famous of the Kardashian family. Socialite and celebrity, Kim is also known for her many cosmetic surgeries. Kim gained media attention when she was seen hanging out with Paris Hilton and later after her adult tape was leaked.

Kris is said to have launched keeping up with the Kardashians only to fix his daughter’s bad reputation. Since her introduction, the reality TV star hasn’t looked back. She’s launched a plethora of things under her name — a line of KKW shapewear and makeup, to name a few. Not only that, but she also earned a law degree.

Kim married Kanye West in 2014 and the couple have four beautiful children – North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm West. It shocked fans when the married couple announced their divorce in 2021.

Khloe Kardashian – Youngest Daughter

She is the youngest of all the Kardashian sisters and is known for her straightforward attitude, dedication to fitness, and huge following on Instagram. Oddly enough, Khloe has made more screen appearances than her older sister. Her rather different appearance from her sisters has caused the public to speculate about her parentage.

A few years ago, Khloe became a full-time fitness enthusiast, and you’ll often see her posting pictures of her beautifully toned body on the social media platform. She even launched her book ‘Looks strong, better bare’. Khloe was in a relationship with Tristan Thompson, a famous NBA basketball player with whom she had a beautiful baby girl. The couple broke up, but soon their romance was rekindled.

Robert Kardashian Jr. – The Only Brother

Robert, aka Rob, is the youngest of all the Kardashian siblings. Following his poor mental health and frequent bouts of depression and anxiety, he left the show and chose to stay out of the spotlight. During his indulgence with the media, he was also seen in Dancing with the Stars (2011) and had been a judge in the Miss USA pageant (2012).

His presence on the show also gave audiences a glimpse into his love life when he dated a famous model, Adrienne Bailon. He later started dating Blac and had a beautiful child together in 2016. Like all Kardashian relationships, this one also bit the dust.

Kendall Jenner – The first Jenner child

This model is the first child of Bruce and Kris. She is a feast for the eyes and a runway model for some of the most opulent labels like Burberry, Versace, Tom Ford and others. Kendall was named the highest paid model in the world in 2018.

The beautiful reality TV star doesn’t like to publicize her private life, and no one knows who she is currently dating. Nevertheless, rumors suggest that she had affairs with Harry Styles and Ben Simmons.

Kylie Jenner – The young mother

She is the most famous name of the Jenner clan. The youngest brother is also the most popular after his sister-in-law, Kim. She had been in the news the longest when she underwent a shocking transformation (her voluptuous lips and ass). Due to the introduction of Kylie Cosmetics and Kylie Skin, she was announced as the youngest self-made billionaire.

Talking about her personal life, she dated famous rapper Tyga, and after breaking up with him in 2017, she started dating another rapper, Travis Scott. In 2017. She dropped a bombshell by announcing her first pregnancy, too, at the age of 20. The couple welcomed their first child, Stormy Webster.

Unfortunately, they separated in 2019. But in 2021, fans celebrated the news of their reconciliation. Currently, the couple are expecting their second child.

Well, keeping up with the Kardashians doesn’t seem difficult anymore. For more tea on the personal lives of your favorite celebrities, stay in touch.

New Delhi: On March 16, India began vaccinating children aged 12 to 14 against COVID-19, while expanding its vaccination coverage in the country. Additionally, now anyone over the age of 60 can receive the precautionary dose, which was previously only available to comorbid citizens in that age group.

Children aged 12 to 14 are vaccinated with two doses of Corbevax, the Hyderabad-based Biological E intramuscular vaccine, 28 days apart. Ministry of Health guidelines said the vaccine will be free and one can register through the CoWin app or walk in to a vaccination center without an appointment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to encourage all eligible children to get vaccinated and protect themselves against COVID-19.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had previously confirmed that only the Corbevax vaccine would be used for recipients in the 12-14 age bracket. It has also become the third COVID-19 vaccine in India and will be available at all centers where free vaccination is available.

Beneficiaries aged 14 to 15 have already been covered when vaccinating for the 15 to 18 age group, the Center said on Tuesday.

According to the guidelines, as of March 1, 2021, there were up to 4.7 million children aged 12 and 13 in the country.

The country expanded its vaccination campaign on January 1, 2022, beginning vaccination of children aged 15 to 18. On January 10, 2022, the country also began administering the “third precautionary dose” to healthcare workers, frontline workers and citizens over the age of 60 with serious health conditions.

As of March 16, the cumulative vaccine doses administered in the country so far under the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign exceeded 180.60 crore.

NDTV – Dettol has been working for a clean and healthy India since 2014 through the Banega Swachh India initiative, which is led by campaign ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. The campaign aims to highlight the interconnectedness of humans and the environment, and of humans to each other, with a focus on One Health, One Planet, One Future – Leaving No One Behind. It emphasizes the need to care for and consider the health of everyone in India – especially vulnerable communities – the LGBTQ population, indigenous peoples, various Indian tribes, ethnic and linguistic minorities, people with disabilities, migrants, geographically distant populations, gender and sexual minorities. As a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the need for WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) is reaffirmed as hand washing is one of the ways to prevent coronavirus infection and other diseases. The campaign will continue to raise awareness on the same topic while focusing on the importance of nutrition and health care for women and children, the fight against malnutrition, mental well-being, self-care, science and health, adolescent health and gender awareness. Along with the health of people, the campaign realized the need to also take care of the health of the ecosystem. Our environment is fragile due to human activity, which not only overexploits available resources, but also generates immense pollution due to the use and extraction of these resources. The imbalance has also led to an immense loss of biodiversity which has caused one of the greatest threats to human survival – climate change. It has now been described as a “code red for humanity”. The campaign will continue to cover issues such as air pollution, waste management, plastic bans, manual salvage and sanitation workers and menstrual hygiene. Banega Swasth India will also pursue the dream of Swasth Bharat, the campaign believes that only a clean Swachh or India where toilets are used and Open Defecation (ODF) status is achieved under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, can eradicate diseases like Diahorrea and the country can become a Swasth or a healthy India.

New Delhi: Expanding the COVID-19 vaccination campaign to include the pediatric population “does not pose a safety risk” to vaccinees, the Center told the Supreme Court on Tuesday while referring to data that 8, 91 crore doses of Covaxin were administered in the 15-18 age group as of March 12.
He said that in the 15-18 age group, the number of adverse events after vaccination (AEFI) reported were – 1,739 (minor), 81 (serious) and six (serious). The Center told a panel of judges LN Rao and BR Gavai that whether or not to vaccinate children is a decision in the executive realm made by the government on the advice of experts in the field and, therefore, cannot not be subject to judicial review.

The higher court is hearing arguments on a plea seeking directions for the disclosure of data on clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccines and post-jab cases.

It is relevant to note that as of March 12, 2022, 8,91,39,455 doses of Covaxin have been administered in the 15-18 age group. In this age group, the number of reported AEFIs is 1,739 (minor) (0.014%), 81 (severe) (0.0009%) and 6 (severe) (0.00001%), the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati said in his brief presentation on behalf of the Center.

“These data indicate that expanding the vaccination campaign to include the pediatric population does not pose a safety risk to vaccinees,” the Center said. It dealt with the petitioner’s observation regarding serious adverse events in children aged 15 to 18 who had been vaccinated in other countries.

The so-called serious adverse events in children mentioned there relate to mRNA vaccines. These vaccines are completely different from the vaccines administered in India. Currently, India does not administer mRNA vaccines. This fact from a person claiming to have special knowledge of the subject clearly reflects an intentional attempt to mislead, the government said.

He said the issue of pediatric vaccination was addressed at a stage when more than substantial data on the safety and immunogenicity of Covaxin in adults were available and in a bid to be on the safe side, clinical trials were also conducted in a limited number of children as per the protocol approved by experts in the field.

Having found no serious adverse events in the trials mentioned above, pediatric vaccination was initiated gradually, i.e. starting with the oldest pediatric age, i.e. say 15 to 18 years old, the Center said.

He said all such decisions were made periodically by the Subject Matter Expert Committee (SEC), which included experts from various domain specialties and that decision-making was based on expert advice.

Arguments that children are less susceptible to Covid and therefore should not be vaccinated are surprising coming from someone claiming to be an expert. All pediatric vaccines are always preventive in nature and are administered in a way that avoids any possible infection and eliminates any potential risk of infection, he said.

The government also told the high court that there is growing scientific evidence regarding prolonged clinical symptoms (known as “long COVID”) which are still being studied scientifically. He said that all global agencies such as World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, CDC (Centers for Disease Control), USA categorically recommend pediatric vaccination in line with global scientific consensus in favor of pediatric vaccination to date.

The Center said that no country in the world has faced such an unprecedented crisis facing humanity due to the COVID-19 outbreak for about 100 years.

He said that on March 13 this year, a total of over 180 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the country and 77,314 adverse events or 0.004% were reported.

The government said on the bench that minor AEFIs are events such as pain at the injection site, mild fever, swelling at the injection site, etc. and that these effects are self-limiting in nature and disappear on their own within a day or two.

He said severe AEFIs are events such as high fever of 102 degrees and above and anaphylaxis, a serious, life-threatening allergic reaction that must be treated clinically.

The Center said severe AEFIs are those that can result in death, hospitalization, persistent or significant disability, and a cluster event.

In addition, free medical treatment is provided to beneficiaries who suffer from AEFI in all public health institutions. States/UTs were asked to identify at least one AEFI management center in each block, he said.

On the issue raised in the plea regarding the disclosure of separate clinical trial data, the Center stated that, by the very nature of the subject matter, there is confidentiality attached to certain parts of the clinical trial process that do not may be compromised under the law.

He stated that with respect to raw or segregated data generated at trial sites, said data is always requested and reviewed prior to granting emergency use approval or final approval by the statutory committee of experts in the field and by the approval authority.

The advocacy asked for instructions to make public the separate clinical trial data for vaccines that are administered in India under the Emergency Use Authorization granted by the Comptroller General of Medicines of India.

Sex life is an anonymous weekly series by Zikoko that explores the pleasures, frustrations and excitement of sex in the lives of Nigerians.

The subject of today’s Sex Life is a 24-year-old pansexual woman with bipolar disorder and depression. She talks about preferring the dry bump to the touch as a coping mechanism, her love of sex driving her to seek orgasms, and the effect of her antidepressants and mood stabilizers on her sex life.

Tell me about your first sexual experience

I banged a toy on my bed pretending to be Gabriella from High School Musical, and Troy was talking to me. I didn’t have an orgasm, but it was nice. I was 8 years old.

How did you know what the hump was like at 8?

At the time, I technically didn’t. While I was pretending to be Gabriella, I just did what felt right at the time. Jumping the toy felt good, so I did.

After the Troy and Gabriella incident, I didn’t feel the need to try anything until I was 9 years old. I was on the floor of my grandmother’s house reading my uncle’s copy of a Danielle Steele book.

While reading, I had to pee. I liked how it felt and re-grouped the wrapper I was tying. I worked it until I came. It was my very first orgasm and I tried so hard to recreate it.

I had an orgasm the next day rubbing another thing I owned. I’m very relentless in the pursuit of orgasms, and it started when I was a kid. It got so bad I thought I was addicted.

How bad did it go?

I moved to boarding school when I was 13. You would have thought that being in a boarding school would stop me, but it is not. I brought a plush toy with me to school for work. I also hid in empty classrooms to work on a sweater.

I was masturbating about three times a day, rubbing different things because that was the only way I knew how. I was Mrs. Humps-A-Lot.

Why do you think you were so into it?

I was a very unhappy child. I masturbated or self-harmed – I took my release wherever I found it, and the bump was that place. It also helped me sleep.

I tried other things, like touching myself, but it never went well. The beat was off and I couldn’t replicate the orgasmic sensation the hump gave me.

Agreed. Let’s talk about sex with other people. When was your first time?

I was 17 and it was with my then girlfriend. We were able to recreate that orgasmic sensation I felt while rubbing. We’ve tried every form of sex you can have without a penis, and it was awesome.

The year we started dating was the peak of my mental health issues. I was in SS 3, applying to universities I had no chance of getting into, and it made me anxious. I didn’t eat and I slept too much. I went through periods where I refused to look anyone in the eye because I felt like a failure. I was self-harming every other day, but she took care of me.

She wasn’t too afraid to walk on eggshells around me and was genuinely interested in making sure I was as well as possible. It excited me all the time.

That didn’t mean I stopped fucking sha because we couldn’t have sex all the time. I didn’t start hacking into other forms of masturbation until I was 21. By then I had already started having penetrative sex.

Wait, let’s take it back. Sex with penetration?

The first time I had penetrative sex was when I was 18. My then girlfriend and I broke up because school was out.

I woke up that June day and decided I had had enough of my hymen. That’s when I told a guy to come.

Sex was extremely painful. It wasn’t a particularly good experience because I kept backing away when he touched me, and he just grabbed me and shoved it.

After that experience, I saw him for six weeks even though I hated it and hated every time he touched me. It was even supposed to be a one-time thing, but he told me he liked me and I felt flattered. I didn’t like sex for a very long time after those six weeks.

How long is long?

7 months. I couldn’t have sex again until January.

At the end of the Christmas holidays, my friend put me in touch with this man who brought my vagina back to life. Sex with him hurt, but in a good way. I particularly enjoyed his reactions when we had sex – he was not shy about expressing his pleasure.

From then on, I began to spread my legs with carefree abandon. I am one of those people who like to experience things. So an opportunity for a new experience presents itself, and I would seize it. I had as much sex as possible. Plus, carelessly spreading my legs led me to the man who taught me how to masturbate correctly.

Please explain.

We didn’t have a masturbation lesson or anything like that. We were having sex and he played with my clitoris until I came. I remember being shocked and shaking as he held me. I went there hoping to suck the soul out of his cock, but here I was shaking my soul.

No man had ever made me cum by touching me before. I had had many orgasms, but none had been achieved by a man simply rubbing my clitoris. I tried to replicate what he did when it was just me, and that’s when I hacked masturbation with my fingers. I now know the model that works. and I often masturbate. I think frequent masturbation is healthy, but it all got difficult once I took medication.

What drugs?

Well, antidepressants for my depression and mood stabilizers because I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I have been on and off treatment for depression since I was 15.

I had a really bad episode in high school that got me suspended. The conditions of my return were that a psychologist had to prove that I was not a danger to anyone else. I have never been violent towards others, but the violence I showed myself made people panic. My dad wasn’t happy to hear that I was self-harming, but he wanted me to go back to school.

I was on antidepressants for a year. As soon as these drugs were taken, I knew I didn’t want them anymore.

But do you have more?

At 20, I went to a mental health facility and was put back on medication. I stayed on it for two months before leaving.

Why?

The first time I had sex while on my meds, I couldn’t get very wet and dried out very quickly. I was frustrated too and then we ran out of lube. So I let him finish and then I went back to sleep.

When I tried to masturbate, it didn’t work. I wasn’t as excited or as wet as I should have been.

How did you know it was the drugs?

I’m a psychology student, so I had some knowledge about what happens when you take drugs. I just never connected with myself until I tried to masturbate and absolutely nothing happened. That’s when I spoke to a friend of mine who was on the same medication and had an “aha” moment.

The problem with the drugs is that they make me feel worse for at least the first 2-4 weeks. When I throw them, I’m the most miserable and suicidal you can find. My mind almost never thinks about sex, and I’m stressed all the time. Not being able to masturbate pisses me off.

Emotions eventually balance out and I feel better, but my libido goes away for at least six months. This is torture.

I am sorry.

Most of the time when someone I love turns me on during sex, I don’t need lube. Like at all. When I take my meds I use all the lube I can get and still don’t have an orgasm. Sex doesn’t feel as good.

How long have you been taking your medications?

I took this current set of meds for 6-7 weeks but went off my meds at the end of Feb 2022.

Why?

One of the people I’m currently sleeping with has a penis that’s too soft. I need one thing to be right for me in this life. I deserve good sex.

Have you stopped your penis medications?

Something like that. I almost lost my job because my meds screwed me up. I physically couldn’t do anything. I barely got out of bed.

I hated myself for feeling like this too. I know I should have been patient and let the effects wear off, but omo. When they told me at work that they were letting me go because I wasn’t performing well, I had to go off the meds. I needed a break.

How’s the break going?

Well, I’m currently trying to convince myself that drinking sniper isn’t such a bad thing to do.

So how would you rate your sex life on a scale of 1 to 10?

A 6 or 7. I currently have good sex with a lot of people, but I want a partner or my own. I just want a partner who knows how to give painful pleasure and isn’t a complete asshole.

The Assemblies of God recently settled a sexual assault lawsuit brought by a group of men who claimed they were abused as children while attending the Royal Rangers Christian youth programme. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed. This case marks an ongoing trend in which various religious organizations have had to settle lawsuits for clergy sexual abuse in one of their youth programs.

About the Royal Rangers

the Royal Rangers Activity-based church ministry for boys of all ages. It’s kind of like a Christian boy scout program. The Royal Rangers are affiliated with the Assemblies of God Church. The stated mission of the Royal Rangers is “to evangelize, equip and empower the next generation of Christian men and lifelong servant leaders”. The Royal Rangers have chartered parties in several states, including Oregon, Pennsylvania, California, Idaho and North Carolina.

The adult mentors who participate in the Royal Rangers program are church members or ministers. Individual churches assume the obligation to select mentors and oversee their activities with minor children in the program.

Sexual abuse charges against the Royal Rangers

In August 2021The Assemblies of God has settled 2 separate lawsuits for an undisclosed amount with a group of Oregon men who participated in the Royal Rangers program as children.

The first lawsuit was filed in 2016 by 3 plaintiffs who alleged that Assembly of God pastor Todd Scott Clark and Royal Rangers leader Ralph Wade Gantt sexually assaulted them in the 1980s. claimed the abuse took place while they were attending Royal Rangers activities and events. Both Clark and Gantt were convicted of crimes of sexual assault in 1988 for incidents that were unrelated to the Royal Rangers.

Two years later, in 2018, another group of 6 men in Oregon filed a lawsuit against the Assemblies of God making almost identical allegations. These men claimed to have been sexually abused and raped by Todd Clark and Ralph Gantt as children. The alleged assaults happened while the boys were attending sleepovers as part of the Royal Rangers scheme. The lawsuit claims the boys informed church leaders, but their claims were summarily dismissed and nothing was done.

Both of these lawsuits sought to hold the church liable for sexual abuse under an agency theory. Since the church was responsible for the Royal Ranger program and supervised the mentors participating in the program, it could be held legally liable in a civil suit for acts of abuse committed during the program. The 2018 lawsuit was made possible by recent changes to Oregon law that extended the statute of limitations for bringing lawsuits like this involving childhood sexual abuse.

Another Royal Rangers mentor charged with sexual abuse

In September 2020, Michael Schechterly, a Perry County judge in Pennsylvania who was also a mentor in the Royal Rangers program, was charged with sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy. Schechterly met his abuse victim while on the Royal Rangers scheme, although it is unclear whether the incidents of sexual abuse occurred at Royal Rangers events or programmes.

Verdicts and Settlement in Other Sexual Abuse Lawsuits

Although the amount of the recent settlement in the Royal Rangers sex abuse lawsuits has not been disclosed, we can get a good idea of what the settlement amount might have been by looking at the payouts in the abuse cases. previous sex.

As a trauma therapist, I have had the honor of working in a profession that aims to serve children and families during some of the most painful and vulnerable times in their lives. I considered it a blessing to have a career focused on what the Bible commands every believer in Christ to do, which is caring for widows and orphans (James 1:27). In our modern vernacular, we could sum up this biblical passage by saying that it is our duty to seek ways to defend and care for those who are destitute and have been ignored by society. This description certainly applies to those who once identified as transgender and decided to detransition to their biological sex.

These people have been repeatedly silenced and ignored, especially by the medical and psychological professions. Before modifying their bodies, many who have struggled with gender dysphoria have reported that their peers, as well as their transgender, medical and psychological advocacy groups, rallied around them and encouraged them to modify their body. body in hormonal and surgical ways to look more like the opposite sex. . Over time, many have come to regret their physiological alterations.

Only a few studies have looked at the fate of detransitioners. But one such study found that almost 40 percent of participants who detransitioned reported feeling pressure from medical and mental health professionals to transition medically.

At best, it is bad practice for professionals to pressure patients into receiving unscientifically validated practices that carry known risks and permanently alter the body. But this social pressure is not only present when integrating medical procedures. Many report that all the encouragement and affirmation they received before fade away when they decide to detransition. In some cases, hostility emerges from those who once encouraged them to follow a path that could change their lives permanently.

However, those who identify as transgender have higher rates of childhood physical, sexual and emotional abuse than the general population. Unfortunately, the vast majority of professional groups have not advocated for treatment options that address the issues commonly seen in tandem with gender dysphoria. For example, in the above study, 57% of detransitioners said their assessment of gender dysphoria was inadequate. Another 65% said possible contributing factors, such as trauma and other mental health issues, were not considered when assessing their gender-related distress.

The results of this study also showed that approximately 45% of biological women said their mental health did not improve during transition, and 41% detransitioned because they realized their gender dysphoria was due to something else (that is to say, trauma or other mental health diagnosis). It logically follows that 48% of these participants experienced trauma less than a year before experiencing gender dysphoria. No wonder nearly 40% of these biological women said the transition made their mental health worse – the real issues were never addressed by the gender clinic or therapist.

On Saturday, March 12, advocacy groups and individuals who have suffered from misdiagnosis and the harms of transgender physiological procedures will gather across the country to raise awareness of the pain and lack of appropriate treatment options for those who struggled with their biological sex. We need mental health treatment that is responsible and accountable to the public. Please support those who bravely take a stand and join or organize an event in your city.

If you can’t attend any events on March 12, encourage your elected officials to hold these professional organizations and gender clinics accountable for promoting harmful practices. Let’s call mental health and health practitioners back to their roots to truly help those who have no voice.

Regular exercise improves just about every aspect of life. It improves lung capacity, mental health and sleep quality. It helps us focus at work and can create new friendships and communities. And there’s also a wealth of evidence to suggest that being active can improve our sex lives.

Aerobic activity, for example, increases blood flow throughout the body; by activating the sympathetic nervous system, blood flow is encouraged to the genital area, which means increased lubrication. Most forms of exercise reduce stress, with research showing that even low levels of physical activity tend to improve mood. And one 2003 studypublished in the journal Preventionhave even discovered that it can be a kind of aphrodisiac, with women experiencing higher libido and levels of sexual satisfaction after 20 minutes of intense exercise.

So far, so good. But exercise can be a powerful medicine that, if prescribed in the wrong dose, can negatively impact nearly every aspect of our well-being, including sex. We’ve already talked about how being “over-fit” can mess with your hormones and your period. We also know that excessive exercise can reduce our mental well-being, but did you know that it can also totally destroy your libido?

I was here. A few years ago, months after doing daily workouts at a body transformation gym, my libido was at an all-time low. I attribute this to having a “naturally low libido” – even though that hasn’t been the case historically. When I finally got my hormone levels checked after my period stopped, it turned out that my sex hormones were at their lowest, while my cortisol level was at its highest. The physical stress – the exercise that kept me mentally and emotionally together – had reduced my capacity for intimacy.

Your hormones begin to “downregulate” after a certain amount of exercise

And it’s a pretty common story, says Renee McGregor, a leading sports dietitian. “If your energy availability is good and everything is working, you may find that being fit actually improves your libido and you will start to enjoy sex a lot more because you have the energy and stamina to do it. But the problem is that if you have a relative energy deficit in sport (RED-S) or if you exercise too much, your hormones start to get down-regulated.

Too often, we don’t appreciate the role estrogen plays in our bodies. “It has a lot more impact than periods,” she says. “It can affect libido. In postmenopausal women, we know that libido drops and many suffer from vaginal dryness. With hypothermic amenorrhea (loss of periods), if you looked at an ultrasound, you would also see very thin uterine lining. So everything is affected, including not being interested in sex.

Why isn’t low libido talked about more in the fitness industry?

Sex, McGregor argues, plays a fundamental role in our well-being. “It’s more than just a biological need. Sex creates a lot of hormones, connections, and a sense of security in a relationship too. If we neglect how we feel, we also neglect our physical, sexual, and emotional well-being. We end up avoiding the kind of intimacy that is so important to simply being happy and healthy.

Given that low libido can be a sign of hormonal disruption, why aren’t we hearing more about it in health and fitness circles? We’re sex-talking rubbish in Britain, to begin with.

And McGregor thinks there’s also a problem with coaches and physiotherapists who don’t have the basic knowledge to help women understand these types of symptoms. “With the level of training and qualification they get, they won’t be aware of hormonal downregulation, so they won’t necessarily see it as a sign worth explaining and talking about.”

Sports hormones are not limited to testosterone

There’s a lot of talk about testosterone in the sports world because it’s a banned substance known to enhance performance. If we don’t eat enough, you get testosterone downregulation, and that impacts our ability to perform physically – both on the track/gym and in the bedroom. But the industry never signals the importance of estrogen or oxytocin. Sexism could explain the first; testosterone directly impacts men so we know a lot more (97% of sports studies are conducted on men)… but oxytocin impacts everyone.

Oxytocin is the hormone that’s released when you have an orgasm, the hormone you release when you kiss someone, and the hormone that makes you feel like you belong, McGregor explains. It’s a feel-good hormone. If we train too hard, we disrupt our production of oxytocin.

“A lot of times people who don’t have the energy available become more and more isolated, and that then trickles down to the mindset of ‘I’m not good enough, I have to push harder'” , says McGregor. “When we’re in isolation, that’s when our negative thoughts are most dominant. And that’s why we’ve seen such a big increase in people struggling with exercise addiction and eating disorders during the pandemic. Because we’re all isolated, we didn’t have the connections.

Sex is important for self-esteem, happiness and body image

We know, for example, that regular sex is linked to higher self-esteem, with studies showing that having more sex tends to increase body confidence. McGregor works with many professional athletes and although she cannot prescribe sex as such, talking about sex and appetite is a fundamental part of her job. “I help them understand if there’s a reason why they don’t want sex.

“It could be because a couple is breaking up, but I’m going to look at their blood, how much exercise they do and see if they have enough estrogen. If they don’t, it won’t be a surprise they don’t have sex.I’ve had clients come back to me (after eating more and moving less) telling me their libido is back – and that’s great.

We arrived on Friday.

But it feels like we’ve come to Friday in 1950. Republicans in Iowa, after a week of national media coverage of their many terrible and harmful bills, continued their attacks on ordinary people in the Iowa in favor of corporate greed.

Luckily, our team is in touch with incredible base defenders like you, and together we will oppose Reynolds’ divisive agenda.

We’re hosting our third training on the Iowa Legislative website next Tuesday, March 8 at noon to help you gain the knowledge and skills to fight the Iowa Republican’s harmful agenda. You can pre-register for this training on the link here: Legislative Website Training Pt. 3

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at today’s news:

1. STATE AND NATIONAL GROUPS OPPOSE IOWA TRANSPHOBIA: Yesterday, despite opposition from numerous local, state and national organizations and businesses, Governor Kim Reynolds signed legislation that would place trans athletes in the state of Iowa and allow state-sanctioned bullying against trans students.

Iowa was once a leader in the United States for civil rights. From the University of Iowa being the first public university to recognize an LGBTQ+ student organization to be one of the first states in the country to legalize same-sex marriageour state has always been on the right side of history and helped advance civil rights across the country.

Now Governor Kim Reynolds and Republican lawmakers in Iowa want to undo nearly 150 years of progress by tackling our state’s marginalized children. Our team unequivocally opposes transphobia and will continue to support organizations such as One Iowa and Iowa Safe Schools to continue the fight for an inclusive Iowa.

Stick with us and share this message of hope for Iowa’s transgender athletes.

Click to tweet: Regardless of what Iowa bullies @IAGovernor and Republican lawmakers say, Iowa is a home for EVERYONE. I support our transgender students and athletes.

Once you’ve shared this post, take a look at the other stories we’re looking at today:

2. KIM’S TRANSPHOBIA WILL COST IOWA TAXPAYERS: Beyond the detrimental damage the Republican ban on trans athletes will have on the mental health of already marginalized students, this bill will also open Iowa to a slew of lawsuits against this discriminatory practice. National organizations like the The NCAA has pulled out of states like North Carolina for their transphobic laws, and Iowa could lose the national basketball tournaments that the University of Iowa and Iowa State University were to host next month. Republicans are rolling back our state, and it’s going to cost us dearly.

3. REYNOLDS IS STILL THE LEAST TRANSPARENT GOVERNOR: After previously being named one of the least transparent administrations in Iowa history, Gov. Kim Reynolds is still battling to have a lawsuit dismissed for unlawfully ignoring requests for open registration from three different media organizations in Iowa. Iowa. We rely on our free press to hold our leaders to account, but Republicans in Iowa have made it clear they don’t want that. Earlier this year, the Iowa Senate reprimanded a century-old tradition of allowing reporters into the chamber, and instead chose to deny them direct access to elected officials in Iowa. We need leaders who always fight for the people of Iowa, without hiding behind bureaucracy to advance their agenda.

4. BONUSES FOR EVERYONE… BUT NOT YOU: The Kim Reynolds Company was proud to announce a $1,000 bonus to Iowa education professionals in its statehood address. What didn’t she mention? This money was made possible by US bailout dollars, and many school workers are not eligible to receive the bounty. People in positions such as school nurses, librarians, bus drivers, etc., are left out of Reynolds’ band-aid solution to underfund public schools for more than a decade. We urge Reynolds and his Republican allies to properly fund Iowa’s public school system and pay our professionals what they are worth.

5. BIDEN’S ECONOMY IS BOOMING: Fortunately, we can end our High Five today on a happy note, thanks once again to President Biden. In February 2022, nearly 678,000 new jobs were added to the US economy, up a quarter of a million from previous projections. Thank you to President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democratic members of Congress like Cindy Axne for always putting Iowan families and workers ahead of corporate greed.
